Jour de Bastille Heureux

Happy Bastille Day Froggies! On July 14th 1789 French peasants stormed the Bastille, setting off the French Revolution. Since the French Revolution was largely caused by their aiding the American colonies in our war against Britain, I feel we Americans ought to tip our hats to our French brethren every July 14. So, let the Tricolour fly, let there be an abundance of cheese and wine, and jour de Bastille Heureux! (Happy Bastille Day)

Je vais peut-être profiter de certains fromages avec mon vin.

Or Ryan perhaps we should sing

"Allons! Enfants de la Patrie! Le jour de glorie est arrive!"

Oui, oui garcons. Je conviens.

I can't believe that it was 20 years ago that I turned on the TV and watched Pedro Delgado "sprout wings" up Luz Ardiden. That's when I became addicted to the sport of cycling! I love July.

Darn, if I would have remembered, I would have stopped by la Madeleine for croissant or something!

I always enjoyed my French class in High School, but my view of the French will forever be scarred by Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Yeah! I know the Frogs are the butt of many a joke, and the RIDICULOUS Bill O'Reilly boycott! I would seriously love to visit France though.

Someone once told me that heaven is a place where the cars are British and the food is French. Sounds about right!

Oui, oui on the cars and food.

Paris was very enjoyable for me and Sarah. Her only caveats are that I ACCIDENTLY deleted her picture in front of the Eiffel Tower, we lost each other in the Louvre, and since we missed our plane and had to take the next one, we did not get to go to Versailles. Other than that, our trip to Paris was "very, very nice" (I saw in an outrageous French accent!"

Sorry Charles "Sarah and me." Please don't excommunicate me or exile me to Avignon! Well on second thought, Avignon might not be that bad.

Casey,
Since you like the Beatles and France how about a little...

"Michelle, ma belle.
Sont les mots qui vont très bien ensemble,
Très bien ensemble."

i've always loved the sound of the language but shamefully never learned it. so i have no idea what you just said. but i did get the first part, and it's kinda funny because my middle name is actually michelle. i'm no penny lane, but i guess it'll do. oh and charles, i'm a proud reader. just keep posting them and i'll keep coming.:)

BTW - this discussion has got me thinking - so anew post is brewing!

Casey,
It is the French translation of the English lyrics.

"Michelle, ma belle.
These are words that go together well, My Michelle."

"Sont les mots qui vont très bien ensemble, Très bien ensemble" literally means "Are the words that go very well together, Very well together."

Thanks Ryan. I am an avid Beatle fan as well and never knew what Paul was saying right there. So Charles, I guess you never thought people would be singing on your blog.

Do you hear the people sing?

Charles North said...

I hear you and my brother doing a Paul and John impersonation - which makes me want to wrap my ears in duct tape!

Ryan said...

That hurts Charles.

Aww. I got props for the Beatles joke (thanks Casey), but no one commented on my Les Miserables reference.
